STEWIE D BEAUTY

Finally the Left Back has shown us what he can do with a beautiful goal against Russians Anzhi Maccaroni (Makachawalaa i mean...).
Meanwhile Daniel Agger tries to score a cheeky goal.
Looks like the referee doesn't have a sense of humour.

Take a look at the highlights of Liverpool's Europa League Match against Anzhi below.

LIVERPOOL VS MAN YOO : POST MATCH REVIEW

A few points about last week’s match against Man Yoo…
(1) The match against Man Utd was about much more than the league.
(2) The fact is that there were decisions in the match that were skewed in Man Utd's favor.

On a day all about Justice For The 96, injustice was done to Liverpool in the match.

(3) What should not be tolerated is the 'fans' who made airplane signals to man Utd fans after the game. They have to be found and criminally prosecuted. Similarly, Manchester United should open criminal prosecution against the fans who chanted against Hillsborough / Heysel

(4) Liverpool fans at Anfield have to be applauded especially for raising the spirits of Rodgers by chanting his name.

(5) This season is not a write off for Liverpool Football Club.

For my first blog entry, I want to share a few thoughts on the recent Liverpool – Manchester United game.
As any educated football fan would know, this game was much bigger than any another EPL game. Firstly, it’s the first home game for Liverpool after the Hillsborough Independent Panel exonerated the Liverpool fans of any blame for the disaster that led to 96 lives being perished, all Liverpool fans. Secondly, it’s a game pitting Liverpool and Manchester United, by far the 2 most successful clubs in England and among the biggest clubs in the world. So no, it was not just any another game.

The one theme that I want to touch on for this post is à injustice.

As I mentioned earlier, Liverpool fans were finally exonerated of any blame after 23 long years.
Finally, justice in some form, though the real justice will come when the perpetrators are criminally prosecuted.
So onto the match. It was obvious from the word go that Liverpool players wanted it far more than the Manchester United players. Gerrard was on song, Joe Allen as impressive as ever and Sterling proving he is the jewel in the crown again. Liverpool were passing the ball better, controlling the midfield and even the defensive errors were cut down.

And then it happened.

The first moment of injustice. What was Halsey thinking? An absolutely ridiculous decision.

Bollocks.

Sorry,I am getting ahead of myself.

My blood has started boiling.

Shelvey gets a great tackle in on Ryan Giggs and recovers instantly to go for the loose ball. Now Johnny Evans and Shelvey both go for the ball and both lunge for it. Both made reckless and possibly dangerous tackles.
But Johnny Evans has something that Shelvey doesn’t.

Acting skills.

Johnny Evans rolls on the ground afterwards, only to recover after red has been shown.
The fact is that only Shelvey was punished when both players should have been treated equally.
Both should have been given a yellow in my opinion.

Shelvey is rightly pissed and has a few choice words for Fergie on his way to the tunnel.

What a legend!

So screw it. Whatever. Let’s go on. End of the half. Goalless and Liverpool still the better team after the sending off. And they start the second half with a bang. Goal in the first minute and it had to be the skipper. Captain fantastic. Steven Gerrard. Fantastic work by Suso too for the buildup.
And of course, Manchester United equalize within 5 minutes through a fantastic strike by Rafael. What a player he’s going to be. A sure shot for the best right back in the world in a couple of years if he can get over the injury and indiscipline issues.

The second moment of injustice happens after this.
Valencia gets a penalty without any contact. This was just, frankly, embarrassing for Halsey, the referee. Suarez, before that, had a legit penalty appeal turned down despite there being contact by Evans but Halsey turns it down.
So of course, when Valencia dives, it should have been turned down.

But here the Fergie effect comes into play.

A day before the match, Fergie says that they never get decisions going their way at Anfield. It was an absolutely pathetic decision that the referee should be ashamed of and when you make a decision like this at
1-1, you have to make sure that you are absolutely spot on about it.

You could tell by his arms waving after awarding the penalty that he wasn’t sure about it but gave it anyways.
RVP converts to give United the lead at 1 – 2.

The third moment of injustice to Liverpool happens after this. RVP makes a ridiculous tackle on Suso which was very similar to the one that Shelvey gets a red card for. But in this case RVP only gets a yellow. I think a yellow was fair enough, but given that Shelvey got a red, RVP should have gotten a red too.

So that is the story of the match. The injustice shown to Liverpool players and fans by Halsey on a day that was all about Justice for the 96.

So of course, Liverpool fans are pissed.

For me, the ‘fans’ who should be criminally prosecuted are the ones who made the airplanes gesture to the travelling Manchester United fans at Anfield. It is absolutely disgraceful and there should be no place for something like this on a football field. Similarly, Manchester United should open criminal prosecution against the fans who chanted against Hillsborough / Heysel.

Finally, I want to say a couple of things about Brendan Rodgers. I have become a big fan of him, despite our start of the season. He’s fearless. Not afraid of telling underperforming senior players like Enrique and Downing to improve or get out of the team and neither is he afraid of playing youngsters in huge games like Sterling against Manchester City and in subsequent matchers and Suso against Manchester United. I also think the fans at Anfield deserve a huge round of applause for raising Rodgers spirits by chanting “Only one Bendan Rodgers” as a reply to “You are getting sacked in the morning” by the travelling Manchester United supporters. That would have raised his spirits.

Brilliant touch by the Liverpool fans.

So what’s next for Liverpool? Is this season a write off? Absolutely not. I feel that the target for Liverpool from this point onwards for this season should be between 60 – 70 points for the season.

This might or might not put Liverpool out of contention for a CL position, but by achieving this points tally, the youngsters would have proven that they have not only the skill but the mentality to play for Liverpool at the top level. As Paul Tomkins rightly put it, the season starts now for Liverpool.

It’s not off to a good start in terms of injuries and lack of personnel, but the true test of character is when your backs are up against the wall.

Stewart Downing appeared to be everywhere according to a commentator from Irish Channel 3e.

Oussama Assaidi - A Flying Winger

Oussama Assaidi has just recently moved to Liverpool for the figure of £2.4 million. Now most Liverpool fans will have never heard of Assaidi and truthfully neither have I. So therefore here's a little research I have dug up on him.

1. His FIFA 2012 profile gives him 91/100 for acceleration, 90/100 for agility and 86/100 dribbling. The area he needs to work on - if the football console is to be believed - is slide tackling, at which they rate him 24/100

2. The wide man scored 20 goals in 68 games for Herenveen.

Here's the proof of Assaidi's pace, trickery and dribbling.

Now just imagine when we get Raheem Sterling on one flank and Asaidi on the other!

CLINT DEMPSEY : THE MAGICIAN?

With rumours that Liverpool are very interested in signing Clint Dempsey,
I thought that this would be a very timely post...

In 2009, Zinedine Zidane said this, " "Is he the best in the world? He might not get the attention of [Lionel] Messi and Ronaldo but, yes, I think he just might be," Zidane said. "If you don't have a player like Steven Gerrard, who is the engine room, it can affect the whole team.
"When we were winning league titles and European Cups at Real, I always said Claude Makelele was our most important player. There is no way myself, [Luis] Figo or Raúl would have been able to do what we did without Claude and the same goes for Liverpool and Gerrard.
He has great passing ability, can tackle and scores goals, but most importantly he gives the players around him confidence and belief. You can't learn that – players like him are just born with that presence."

Well check out this fantastic video below...

Why Fergie was Right about Suarez

Alex Ferguson has made a number of curious statements about Luis Suarez recently.
This is what he said,

“I could not believe it, I just could not believe it. He’s a disgrace to Liverpool Football Club, that certain player should not be allowed to play for Liverpool again.”
“The history that club’s got and he does that and in a situation like today could have caused a riot. I was really disappointed in that guy, it was terrible what he did.”

I for one think Fergie's got it right in this case but not for the reasons you would think.
Suarez's diving and constant moaning at referees for things not going his way is not the way Liverpool players should behave on the field. Him snubbing Evra while telling Kenny Dalglish and the Liverpool management that he would do otherwise was unbecoming of a Liverpool player. His kicking of the ball away at half time in a fit of petulance was similarly undignified.
Liverpool Football Club are a different breed of football club. They can't be compared to your Man Utds, Chelseas or Man Citys. This is not a club built on money or intimidation of referees and officials. This is a club built on values. Values that Bill Shankly espouses so clearly in the video below.
Fast forward to minute 3:48 to see what I mean.

Values such as hard work, no one being bigger than the club and playing for the public who pay good money to see you play.  Fans who pay good money to see a good game of football not a non handshake.
This is not a club that tolerates players launching kung-fu kicks on fans (Cantona), players who intentionally miss drugs tests(Ferdinand), players who constantly dive and throw hissy fits(Ronaldo) or players who sleep with their brother's wife(Giggs).  This is not Manchester United.
This is Liverpool Football Club. Higher standards are expected.
If Suarez does not change, he should be sold.
Sold to Man Utd.
They tolerate this kind of devilish behavior over there.
Ask Fergie.

EVRA WIPES OUT FERDINAND

Saint Patrice Evra is sooo desperate to plant his studs on Luis Suarez that
he wipes out Rio Ferdinand instead!!

I kind of respect people like Roy Keane.
If they don't like someone, they'll break their legs and brag all about it in their autobiography.
Evra on the other hand, almost broke Ferdinand's face!

THE HYPOCRISY OF WAYNE ROONEY

By now you must have heard and seen Pepe's infamous stamp on Leo Messi's hand.
The incident ocurred in Wednesday's 2-1 defeat for Real at home to Barcelona in the Spanish cup quarter-finals.
For those who haven't ( the referee included) you can fast forward to minute 0:34 to see Pepe in action.

There's been criticism of Pepe from all corners. The Marca, the normally loyal Madrid based paper said that Pepe's behavior was "shameful" and "intolerable".
The criticism was so intense and Pepe's behavior so bad that Real Madrid have decided to drop Pepe for 2 weeks.

In a strange twist of fate, some criticism has also come from Wayne Rooney.
"Pepe. What an idiot. Sometimes people wind u up" he tweeted.

This is strange considering that in the 2006 World Cup,Rooney was sent off for similar incident,
stamping on Ricardo Carvalho's crotch.

Is Rooney suffering  from selective amnesia or is he a product of the English media which thinks he can no wrong?

After all most of the media coverage from the stamping incident centered around Ronaldo's attempt to get his Man Utd teammate sent off and his infamous 'wink'.
Cristiano Ronaldo was painted as a villain that time and he feared for his safety once he returned to England after the World Cup.

Well anyway, just in case Rooney reads this blog I've added a sort of Greatest Hits Collection of Rooney's on field indiscretions so that hopefully it might jog his memory.
You can forward to minute 1:03 to see the stamping incident.

Guti, the former Real Madrid player in response to Rooney's hypocrisy said,

"I laugh at Rooney," Guti responded on his Twitter page.

"But there are many saints in heaven, and if you want to be a saint you must lead by example. Making mistakes is human."

Couldn't have said it better myself!

MAN CITY VS MAN UTD (FA CUP): THE VERDICT

Man Utd were absolutely fantastic in the game against Man City. Yes you heard that right.
I am actually praising Man Utd.
Why? You might ask.
For two reasons.

1. They won against a team who absolutely humiliated them at Old Trafford.
2. Their win set up a tie with Liverpool at Anfield in the next round.

I'll get into the first reason.

How do you praise a Man Utd team that struggled mightily to beat a Man City team with 10 men?
Well firstly you have to consider the psychological damage that City inflicted on Man Utd at Old Trafford with THAT 6-1 margin.
To lose by that margin at home must hurt.
It was not just hurt. It was humiliation.

To come back to the Etihad stadium and overcome that same team minus Balotelli, Yaya Toure and Joe Hart involved overcoming a huge mountain of fear.
If you noticed, Man Utd played with a lot of fear against Man City.
That's why they couldn't capitalise in the 2nd half when the score was 3-0(Could have been 4-0 in the 1st half).
They were still afraid even against 10 men.
They were proven right.

City came back.
First with a Kolarov rocket.
Then Aguero pouncing on a Man Utd goalkeeping error.(How many times have you heard that this season?)
Man Utd were shaking from a 10-man City onslaught.
The final whistle couldn't come early enough.

Who has the advantage now in the title race?

Man City.
Why?
Without the need to defend their FA Cup, they only have the League title, Carling Cup semifinals and the Europa Cup to concentrate on.
Mancini has said repeatedly that its the League title he wants this year,so you can bet on Mancini rotating his team for the Europa Cup and then crashing out as he has already done in the Champions League.

WINNERS: MAN CITY

Now the second reason.
With all the furore surrounding the Suarez-Evra matter, this is exactly what both clubs don't need.
With Liverpool left seething at perceived injustice from the FA, Man Utd know they have to face a side trying to seek some measure of revenge and an Anfield baying for blood.

What more if the match needs a replay at Old Trafford.

Man Utd still have a lot of matches to play in the Europa Cup and FA Cup.
Any additional matches between these two titans of English football will only benefit one team.

Man City.

WINNERS: MAN CITY
